We finished Edward Tulane today and are moving onto our 3rd Kate DiCamillo book for the year, Tiger Rising. The students seemed to enjoy Edward's Journey as much as I have!! They were so excited to learn of his fate and made many wonderful inferences, connections and still had very deep thoughts over just what Pellegrina's influence may have been on his lesson of love and his adventure! I couldn't have asked for a more perfect response to the story I adore!! ;)
Now we are eager to jump right into our next book with this excellent author! We will continue our work in our Reader's Notebooks and learning to grow as readers!

We have been reading one of my favorite stories of all time this month with The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. We are continuing our work in our Reader's Notebooks as well as our Literacy Strategies. We also read The Velveteen Rabbit and have found so many connections and parallels between the two stories. We have also started reading Eggs for our Read Aloud and have found even more connections and similarities among the three stories. This provides a wonderful opportunity for comparing and contrasting characters, settings, plot and themes!

We have certainly had our share of rain for April and it's only the middle of the month!! The downpours and flooding have been real life examples of weather hazards so our students have definitely had real life applications from our weather unit. Let's hope for May flowers soon!!!
